Anxiety

  • “Why do I feel anxious all the time?”

  • “Why can I never relax?”

  • “Why do I feel on edge all the time, even when nothing is going wrong?”

  • “Why does the smallest thing seem to overwhelm me?”

These are some of the questions that clients are seeking answers to and wanting to explore in therapy sessions.

Anxiety is defined as a mental health condition that features excessive fear or worry. Often, sleep is disturbed and you may be having panic attacks, difficulty concentrating and a range of other symptoms. Anxiety is a very common condition that people seek support for.

Traditional therapy may focus on changing unhelpful thoughts or beliefs, however, by integrating cognitive insights with nervous system understanding and embodiment tools, we can often experience more relief from anxiety.

Through a trauma informed, nervous system lens, anxiety is seen as the body’s threat system being activated and for certain people, including those who have experienced trauma, the body may scan for danger more often than for those without trauma. When the body perceives threat, it shifts into a survival response.

By learning more about our nervous systems, and integrating both cognitive (mind) and somatic (body based) awareness, we are able to more deeply understand anxiety, and its impacts, learn gentle regulation techniques, develop a deeper understanding of our triggers and responses and deepen a sense of safety in our bodies over time.
